About

SHE Reads is a podcast that grew out of discussions about books and reading among a group of friends that needed books to feel connected to each other and the world.

We met in the summer of 2016, and became fast friends. After four months of never being farther than a 30 minute drive from each other, life happened, and we all moved hours apart. We had to rely on group texts and sporadic girls weekends to stay in touch. Whenever we were together, we’d catch up on life, but then quickly get to the good stuff–what had we been reading lately?! Which would spiral into hourlong conversations about the book we just HAD to read, and that would lead to deeper conversations about self love, femininity, masculinity, diversity, sex positivity, the patriarchy! You name it, we’ve probably talked about it. And being the self-obsessed millennials that we are, we thought, hey, we should share this with the world! So we are trying it out.

Listen. Love it. Hate it (at least you’ll have tried it). Share it with your friends, family, and fellow book lovers. We hope that there is a place for our voice, and just maybe we can provide a different perspective on books–a Canadian, female, earnest perspective.

Siobhan is the feeling you get when listening to a loved one laugh; she is the sun shining and warming your skin on a glorious July day. She was born in Ottawa, Ontario, but has lived in Lyon, France; Vancouver, British Columbia; and Montreal, Quebec. She currently lives in Toronto, Ontario. She enjoys sweating it out in a yoga studio, cold beer in the summer sun, and people watching over a coffee in a bougie cafe. She fell in love with books because a good story can make her laugh and cry. She works in books, and what she lacks in funds, she makes up with passion.

Hunter is the warm hug of a hand-knit scarf on a crisp fall day; she is the first sip of your favourite cold beer on a hot summer’s day. If she were to describe her hobbies to you, you might think she was a 75-year-old woman. She aspires to be publisher, but she is currently living with her parents on their farm deep in Ontario cottage country. She enjoys knitting scarves for her friends, cross stitching subversive sayings, photographing her loves, cuddling her cats, and reading books of every colour and genre. She loves a cold beer, being spooned, and a strong red-headed heroine.

Elizabeth is the laugh that unexpectedly bursts from the bottom of your belly in the middle of a good book or your favourite show; she is like a long hot bath. She is as refreshing as a face mask, as fun as the book in your hands, as warm as the water around you, and as tangy as the wine you’re sipping. She spends most of her time falling: off the boulder at her climbing gym, out of a yoga pose in the studio, in love with books, or just generally walking around in life. She likes to travel, is a proud supporter of the oxford comma, and dreams of finishing a New York Times crossword without looking at the answers.
